Shopify packing photos, ready when customers ask

Part A — Get CodaScan on your warehouse phone

Do this first on the phone your team will use to take photos.

1. Open CodaScan in Shopify

   Install CodaScan from the Shopify App Store and open it in your store admin.

2. Install the CodaScan mobile app

   On the warehouse phone, install CodaScan from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).

3. Choose the license for your work

   For your own store, subscribe through Shopify: 14 days free, then US$10 every 30 days, with unlimited devices, orders, and photos for that store. Cancel before the trial ends to avoid charges. If you handle clients’ orders as a 3PL or service provider, use a direct CodaScan license instead.

4. Keep the phone ready for pairing

   Open CodaScan on the phone. With a Shopify subscription, the pairing QR in Part B activates the phone; no website account is needed. With a direct CodaScan license, activate the phone using your CodaScan license, then pair it with the client’s store.

Part B — Install CodaScan in Shopify

This connects your Shopify store to CodaScan so photos can be saved on each order.

1. Open Shopify admin

   Log in at admin.shopify.com with your store owner or staff account.

2. Install the CodaScan app

   Go to Apps → search for "CodaScan" → Install. Approve the permissions when Shopify asks — CodaScan needs access to orders and files so it can attach photos.

3. Open the CodaScan app inside Shopify

   After installation, open Apps → CodaScan to pair your phones. Subscribe in Shopify if you are using the store’s Shopify subscription; phones with a direct CodaScan license use that license instead.

4. Connect your warehouse phone

   On the phone: open CodaScan → Settings (gear icon) → Shopify. Scan the pairing QR code shown in Shopify Admin, or enter the details manually if scanning is unavailable.

   • For manual pairing, enter your shop address, such as my-store.myshopify.com.
   • Enter the current pairing code from the CodaScan app in Shopify Admin.
   • Tap Pair. When it succeeds, the phone is linked to your store.

5. Save the Shopify workflow

   Choose how order numbers are matched, whether recent orders are available for offline autocomplete, which product-verification checks are required, whether photo changes appear on the order timeline, whether a local deletion also removes the Shopify file, and the camera quality. Save the configuration with a clear name so licensed devices can reuse it.

Part C — Add a QR code to your packing slip

Your team scans a QR code on the paper that comes with the order. Paste the snippet below into Shopify's packing slip editor.

Part C2 — Add a product QR code to each line item (optional)

If you use CodaScan product verification, add a small QR code next to each product on the packing slip. Staff scan the order first, then scan each product code to confirm what was packed.

Turn on Product verification in the CodaScan Shopify app and make sure each variant has a SKU or barcode in Shopify Admin.

Workflow: scan the order QR from Part C → confirm the product list in CodaScan → scan each product QR on the slip (or tap Scan and point at any product code).

Part D — Daily use (for warehouse staff)

1. Print the packing slip with the order

   When you pack an order, print the packing slip that includes the QR code.

2. Scan the code with CodaScan

   Open CodaScan → tap Add (+) → scan the order QR code. If it is missing or damaged, enter the Shopify order number manually. When product verification is enabled, scan each product QR on the slip (or tap Scan in the product list) before taking photos.

3. Take photos

   Photograph the packed items. Tap Done when finished. Photos upload automatically when internet is available.

4. View photos on the order in Shopify

   In Shopify Admin, open the order. The images are stored as Shopify files and referenced by the order’s CodaScan fulfillment-photos metafield. If timeline updates are enabled, the upload also appears in the order timeline.

Test with a real order

Print a packing slip from any order, scan it with CodaScan, and take a test photo. Then open that order in Shopify and confirm the photo appears.

Using another provider instead?

The Shopify subscription activates CodaScan for the subscribing Shopify store only. CodaScan also connects to WooCommerce, SharePoint, Dropbox, and Google Drive; those providers require a separate directly managed CodaScan license.
